Imaging Source Launches Astrophotography Cameras

Imaging Source has introduced a new line of astrophotography cameras that updates the company's earlier models with USB 2.0 connectivity instead of FireWire (IEEE 1394). The nine cameras have anodized aluminum and zinc bodies with C/CS lens mounts, and are available with three different CCD sensor resolutions: 640x480, 1024x768, and 1280x960 pixels. Each model is available in both color and monochrome versions, and with or without an infrared (IR) cut filter over the sensor. IR cut filters block infrared light.

The cameras are designed to save images with exposures as long as 60 minutes directly to a connected computer. The computer monitor functions as the camera's viewfinder and control interface, through the use of Imaging Source's included IC Capture.AS software. The software provides control over exposure, light-sensitivity settings, capture frame rate, and other settings.

The new cameras are priced between $350 and $870. More information about the cameras and U.S. retailers that carry them is available at Imaging Source's Web site.
