Canon has introduced a new portable inkjet printer. The 4.4-pound Pixma iP100 Mobile Printer outputs photos with a maximum 9600x2400 dpi resolution and a 1 picoliter minimum droplet size. Although it measures just 12.7x2.4x7.2 inches, it can print at sizes up to 8.5x11 inches.
The iP100 uses four dye-based inks in a single cartridge to print photos, and switches to a high-capacity pigment-based black ink cartridge to output text. Among the printer's notable photo printing features is Auto Image Fix, which analyzes each scene and automatically selects a mode that optimizes the print for a scene type, such as Portrait, Scenery, or the somewhat nebulous-sounding Snapshot.
The printer is equipped with a USB port for receiving images directly from a PictBridge-enabled camera, an IrDA port for receiving camera phone photos via infrared beam, and support for an optional Bluetooth adapter, also for receiving photos from a camera phone or another device with Bluetooth wireless connectivity. The printer can run on AC power or an optional Canon LK-62 Lithium Ion battery, which the company says will hold up for about 290 pages per three-hour charge.
The iP100 Mobile Printer is available for $249.99. The LK-62 battery costs an additional $99.99, and a compatible Automobile Power Unit (PU-200U) sells for $89.99.
