Nikon has introduced two new Coolpix S-series point-and-shoots. The S52 and S52c are identical, with the exception of their finish colors and the latter camera's 802.11b/g wireless network connectivity. The cameras feature a stylish design, 9-megapixel resolution, an f/3.3-4.2, 38mm-114mm (35mm equivalent) 3x zoom lens, and optical image stabilization. Their 230,000-dot, 3-inch LCDs have an antireflective coating.
The S52 and S52c offer numerous automatic shooting modes, in-camera redeye removal, face-detection technology, and Nikon's D-Lighting feature, which automatically opens up dark shadow areas in playback mode. They have a top light-sensitivity setting of ISO 3200. The cameras also include Nikon's Pictmotion feature, which lets users create slide shows with music, timelapse movies, and stop-motion clips. The S52c's WiFi connectivity allows users to e-mail photos from the camera and upload photo and video files to an online album on Nikon's myPicturetown site or Flickr.
The S52 will be sold with Crimson Red and Midnight Black finishes for $249.95, and the S52c will come in Vibrant Black for $279.95. Both cameras will be available in May 2008.
