Sigma Introduces 50mm F1.4 Lens

Sigma has introduced a new standard prime lens for digital SLRs. The 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM is designed for use with both full-frame and APS sensors. It incorporates aspherical elements to minimize optical flaws, a super multi-layer lens coating to reduce flare and ghosting, and a Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) to achieve fast, quiet autofocus. On cameras that have APS-C size sensors, the lens provides an angle of view equivalent to that of an 80mm lens on a 35mm camera. The lens has a minimum focus distance of 17.7 inches.

The 50mm lens is compatible with Sigma, Canon, Nikon, Pentax, and Sony digital SLRs. However, it is notable that it will not offer autofocus on cameras that do not support HSM. Pricing and availability have not yet been announced.
