Designed for automatic photography, the V20 offers 15 shooting modes, in addition to an Auto Picture mode that evaluates the scene and automatically sets the camera to Landscape, Portrait, Night Scene, Normal, Flower, or Sports mode. It has a shutter-speed range of 1/2000 to 4 seconds and a top light-sensitivity setting of ISO 6400. Among the V20's advanced automatic features are face detection, a Smile Capture option that releases the shutter automatically when someone in front of the camera smiles, and a Blink Detection setting that alerts the photographer when someone in the photo just taken had closed eyes. Other notable features include tracking autofocus, the ability to focus as close as 4 inches without switching to Macro mode, spot and center-weighted metering, a panorama stitching mode, and red-eye removal. Pentax rates the V20's continuous-shooting mode at 1.43 fps, and the camera provides a voice recording mode and smooth VGA video capture. There's a digital stabilizer available in movie mode, as well as black-and-white and sepia settings.
The V20 will be available in May 2008 for a $279.95 retail price.
