Casio has introduced a new ultracompact 8.1-megapixel camera. The Exilim Zoom EX-Z9 sports an f/2.8-5.2, 37.5mm-112.5mm (35mm equivalent) 3X zoom lens and a 114,960-dot, 2.6-inch LCD.
Designed for snapshot photography, the EX-Z9 provides programmed and fully automatic shootings modes, 23 Best Shot scene modes, and face-detection technology. Its shutter-speed range runs from 1/2000 to 4 seconds, and it has a top light-sensitivity setting of ISO 1600. Although the camera is intended mainly for automatic shooting, it does provide some fine-tuning features, including manual white balance, spot and center-weighted metering modes, and a variety of focus selections that include pan focus, manual focus, and spot autofocus. It also has a handy triple self-timer. The EX-Z9 can capture video at regular VGA resolution or in a 848x480 widescreen mode. It also provides a voice recording mode and can attach voice annotations to photographs.
The EX-Z9 will be available for a $159.99 retail price in March 2008. It will be sold with pink, black, silver, and orange finishes.
