In the lead-up to the 2008 PMA trade show, Nikon has introduced three new lenses, the AF-S DX Nikkor 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G VR 5.3x zoom lens, AF-S Micro Nikkor 60mm f/2.8G ED prime, and PC-E Nikkor 24mm f/3.5D ED tilt-shift lens. Nikon says it will also announce two additional tilt-shift lenses during the summer of 2008.

The stabilized AF-S DX Nikkor 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G VR is equipped with Nikon's Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for fast and quiet autofocus, as well as ED (extra-low dispersion) and aspherical elements to reduce chromatic aberrations and improve contrast and resolution. It also uses Nikon's Super Integrated Coating to reduce lens flare and ghosting. The lens is designed for use with Nikon's FX format as well as the smaller DX format. When used with the DX format, the lens provides the same angle of view as a 24-127.5mm lens on a 35mm film camera.

Nikon claims that the design of its new AF-S Micro Nikkor 60mm f/2.8G ED offers superlative edge-to-edge sharpness. It can focus as close as 0.6 feet, and offers 1:1 magnification. This lens is the first Micro Nikkor to use aspherical elements. It also incorporates an ED element, Nikon's Nano Crystal and Super Integrated coatings for enhancing image quality while reducing ghosting and flare, and a ring-type SWM motor. Its internal focusing mechanism facilitates the use of polarizing filters, and it provides controls for switching between manual-priority autofocus and manual modes.

The first in what Nikon says will be a series of perspective-control (PC) lenses with electronic diaphragms for automatic aperture control, the PC-E Nikkor 24mm f/3.5D ED provides up to +/- 11.5mm shift and +/- 8.5-degree tilt for perspective control. In addition to automatic exposure control via the camera, there is a lens-mounted stop-down button and an aperture ring for adjusting exposure. The lens incorporates ED and aspherical elements and uses Nikon's Nano Crystal and Super Integrated coating. It has a minimum focus distance of 0.7 feet.

The PC-E Nikkor 24mm f/3.5D ED will be available in Spring 2008 for $1929, the AF-S Micro Nikkor 60mm f/2.8G ED will sell for $550 beginning in March, and the AF-S DX Nikkor 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR will cost about $650, also beginning in March.

Nikon has also announced the Nikon D60, an upgrade of the popular D40x DSLR, and several new additions to the Coolpix line of digital compact cameras.
