Pharos introduced a new GPS package for photographers who want to geotag their images at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, NV. The Trips & Pics package includes an iGPS-500 receiver with a lithium-ion battery and Pharos's newly developed Windows geotagging software.
To tag images with the location in which they were shot, a photographer carries the 2-ounce receiver while shooting, then loads its data track into the Trips & Pics software along with the photos after the shoot. The software matches the time codes of the location data with the images to combine them. The iGPS-500 can be set to record location data at intervals from 1 second to 5 minutes in the field. Geotagged photos can be attached to and displayed in numerous mapping programs and interfaces, including Microsoft Streets & Trips, Google Earth, Google Maps, and Pharos's maps.
Trips & Pics will be available for $89.95 in January 2008. Pharos also plans to make the software available as a download from its Web site for users who already have a GPS device.
