Samsung Adds New Models to L and i Camera Lines
The 8-megapixel i8 also functions as a media player for video and MP3 playback, with a 2.5mm headphone port and an external speaker with SRS 3D acoustic technology.

Samsung introduced three new L-series point-and-shoots and a new i-series model at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, NV. The 10.1-megapixel L210 and 8.1-megapixel L110 and L100 all have a 3x zoom lens and a 2.5-inch LCD that automatically adjusts its brightness according to ambient light levels. The i8 also has a 3x zoom and the same type of screen, but its lens zooms internally and the screen is a slightly larger 2.7 inches. The 8-megapixel i8 also functions as a media player for video and MP3 playback, with a 2.5mm headphone port and an external speaker with SRS 3D acoustic technology. The i8 appears to be nearly identical to the Samsung NV4, also introduced at the show, but has a glossy, reflective finish instead of the NV4's stainless steel case.

All of the new cameras are designed for automatic snapshot photography and offer 14 scene modes. Their top light-sensitivity setting is ISO 1600. Among their other notable features are face-detection autofocus and autoexposure, a self-portrait mode that will only snap a shot when your face is in the middle of the frame, automatic redeye removal, a Multi-Slide Show mode that adds transitions and user-loaded MP3s to on-camera slideshows, and built-in help. The L210 and L110 also provide a Dual Image Stabilization mode that combines optical and digital image stabilization, while the L100 and i8 offer digital image stabilization only. The i8 also includes Samsung's World Tour Guide function, a rudimentary in-camera travel guide to destinations in 30 countries.

Samsung endowed all of the new cameras with an advanced MPEG-4 video mode that shoots at 800x592 resolution. It allows video capture to be paused and resumed during a single clip, and enables the optical zoom to function during video capture.

The L100, L110, and i8 will be available in February 2008 for $199, $229, and $299, respectively. The L210 will be available in March for $269.
