Kodak to Increase Film Prices

The cost of Kodak's one-time-use cameras and some films will rise 5 to 10 percent in March 2008.

December 5, 2007

Kodak has announced that it will increase prices for its one-time-use cameras and some films an average of 5 to 10 percent on March 1, 2008. The company says that the rising cost of raw materials such as silver and petrochemicals have led to the increase. Kodak also cites "industry volume trends" as a reason for the price hike. We take this to mean that the transformation of film into an expensive specialty item in the age of digital photography has officially begun. Kodak has not released details about which films will be affected.
