Kingston Boosts CompactFlash Speed with New Cards

Kingston Technology has added faster memory cards to its CompactFlash Ultimate line. The new CompactFlash type I model offers a sustained write speed of 266x instead of the previous 133x limit on Kingston's top-end cards. That means the rated write speed has increased from 20 megabytes per second to 40Mbps. The new cards' read speed is rated at 45Mbps.

The CompactFlash Ultimate 266x cards come with MediaRECOVER software for salvaging accidentally deleted images. They will be available in August 2007 in a 2GB capacity for $83, a 4GB capacity for $144, and an 8GB size for $280.

For more on memory card write speeds, see our  Speed Racers test from April, 2007 or  compare prices on all Kingston Technology cards.
