Canon has introduced a compact new HD camcorder that captures 3.1-megapixel photos. The HR10 uses a ½.7-inch CMOS sensor and an optically stabilized 10x zoom lens to record AVCHD video to 3-inch DVDs and JPEG stills to a miniSD card. It features a built-in flash, a video light, and a 2.7-inch widescreen LCD that Canon says displays the widest color gamut of any of its consumer camcorders to date, as well as providing a 135-degree viewing angle. The HR10 uses Canon's DIGIC DV II HD image processor, which the company claims improves color reproduction and noise reduction.
The HR10 borrows many features from Canon's snapshot cameras, including nine-point autofocus. Its Instant AF system uses a combination of through-the-lens technology and an external sensor, which Canon claims provides superior autofocus performance. The camera can record 2-megapixel stills while shooting video, and users can pull 2-megapixel frames from the video it records to disc as well.
The HR10 will be available in August 2007 for $1199.
