| Lexmark X4550. |
Lexmark has introduced five affordable new desktop printers and all-in-one models. All of them print documents and six-color borderless photos as large as 5x7, and the higher-end models feature WiFi connections for receiving image files and documents from a WiFi-enabled computer, camera, camera phone or other device. The printers use dye-based inks sold in a color-ink cartridge, a black-ink cartridge and an optional photo black cartridge.
The Z1300 and Z1420 printers both output photos at 4800 x 1200 dpi; the biggest distinction between the two models is the Z1420's built-in WiFi connection. The three all-in-one devices also print at 4800 x 1200 dpi and also provide scanning and copying functions.
The X2500's scanner captures at up to 600 x 1200 ppi, with 36-bit color and 12-bit grayscale depth. The X3500 bumps the scanner specs up to 48-bit color and 16-bit grayscale, and adds memory-card slots and PictBridge support for printing directly from a USB-connected camera. It can also output proof sheets of images on memory cards and can be upgraded to have wireless connectivity with Lexmark's $50 WiFi adapter. The X4550 provides WiFi built in, along with all the same capabilities as the X3500.
The $30 Z1300, $50 X2500, $80 Z1420 and $80 X3550 are available now. The $130 X4550 will be available in June.
