LaCie has introduced a widescreen LCD that it claims displays 95 percent of the Adobe RGB color space often used by photographers preparing images for print. The monitor has a 25.5-inch (diagonal) screen with 1920x1200 resolution and a backlight stabilization system. It incorporates a 12-bit LUT (lookup table) and provides 16-bit processing, promising strong color rendition.
The included Blue Eye Pro calibration software allows manual fine-tuning of the monitor’s white point and profile switching without recalibration. It also provides a Test & Report feature that verifies profile accuracy and an Ambient Light Analysis tool that evaluates room light to help determine whether it is suitable for critical color work.
The LaCie 526 will be available this month for $1,999. It comes with a hood, an adjustable stand, cables and a cleaning kit. The monitor will also be bundled with LaCie’s Blue Eye Pro colorimeter for $2,299. It is notable that this monitor has specs identical to those of the NEC MultiSync LCD2690WUXi, which is currently available for about $1,700.
