PMA: Leica Introduces C-Lux 2
Leica C-Lux 2
Leica has introduced the C-Lux 2 (est. $499), a new ultracompact 7.2 megapixel point-and-shoot camera featuring an optically stabilized f/2.8-5.6, 28mm-100mm (35mm equivalent) Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 3.6x zoom lens and a 207,000-pixel, 2.5-inch LCD. Leica claims the C-Lux 2's new processor gives it faster performance than its predecessor, the C-Lux 1.

The C-Lux 2 is designed for automatic photography and offers 19 shooting modes, including an Intelligent ISO mode that detects motion in a scene and boosts the ISO and shutter speed accordingly. It also provides a number of exposure-adjustment tools, including auto exposure bracketing, a live histogram, and light-sensitivity settings up to ISO 3200. The camera's shutter-speed range runs from 60 seconds to 1/2000 second. Its white balance is adjustable in 150-Kelvin steps, and several autofocus modes are available. The C-Lux 2 provides 3fps and 2fps full-resolution continuous shooting modes as well. It captures photos in both standard and widescreen aspect ratios, and also records smooth Motion JPEG video with sound in standard VGA resolution or widescreen 848x480.

The Leica C-Lux 2 will be available in May 2007 for about $499 with a black or silver finish. The camera comes with a 64MB SD card and Adobe Photoshop Elements, and is compatible with an adapter for connecting Leica spotting scopes.
