Sony has introduced a compact point-and-shoot camera with built-in wireless connectivity. The 6-megapixel Cyber-shot DSC-G1 can send photos wirelessly to other devices that are compatible with the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) standard. The G1 offers an optically stabilized Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar f/3.5-4.3, 38mm-114mm (35mm equivalent) 3x zoom lens and a 3.5-inch LCD with a remarkably high 921,000-pixel resolution. The camera also provides 2GB of internal memory in addition to its Memory Stick Duo slot.
Designed for automatic shooting, the G1 provides 10 programmed scene modes and fine-tuning tools such as center-weighted and spot metering, light sensitivity settings up to ISO 1000, and adjustable flash brightness. It also offers auto exposure bracketing and a 3.3fps continuous-shooting mode. The G1 captures smooth VGA-resolution video with sound.
The camera's playback functions are notable as well: A new search tool allows photographers to find images by using a keyword or by selecting a photo and searching for images that look similar. The G1 can also create slideshows with music in-camera.
The G1 will be available in April 2007 for about $600.
