Leica Updates M8 Firmware, Ships UV/IR Filter

Leica has released a new version of the firmware for its M8 digital rangefinder, and has started shipping a UV/IR filter that corrects color casts caused by the M8 sensor's sensitivity to infrared light. Firmware version 1.092 improves color rendition with Adobe Camera Raw, adds shutter and ISO speeds to the image data display in review mode, and makes a number of other minor improvements.

Leica says that further firmware adjustments are required to support use of the UV/IR at focal lengths between 16mm and 35mm. Those adjustments will be implemented in version 1.10, which the company expects to make available in mid-April 2007.

M8 firmware upgrades are available as free downloads on Leica's Web site. The UV/IR filter is available for free to M8 owners.
