Nikon has introduced an upgrade to its D40 digital SLR. The D40x improves upon the older model with 10-megapixel resolution, a faster 3.1fps drive mode, and longer battery life, according to CIPA-standard testing. Its lowest light-sensitivity setting is now ISO 100 instead of the D40’s ISO 200. However, the camera’s new sensor has also pushed the top flash sync speed down to 1/200 second from the D40’s 1/500 second.
The D40x will be available this spring for an estimated price of $730 (body only). It will also be sold in a kit with Nikon’s 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 GII AF-S DX Nikkor lens for an estimated $800.
