Adobe CEO Bruce Chizen has revealed in an interview with CNET News.com that the company will release a free, Web-based version of Photoshop in three to six months. The hosted version is expected to be more basic than Photoshop Elements, but will be available for free.
According to the interview, the hosted Photoshop service is "part of a larger move to introduce ad-supported online services to complement [Adobe's] existing products and broaden the company reach into the consumer market." The company has already released Adobe Remix -- a Web-based video-editing tool -- through the Photobucket Web site. Chizen noted that Adobe also plans to use the Web to introduce new features to desktop software such as Lightroom.
