Armed with OmegaSatter’s new armor and umbrella accessories, your camera’s likely to fare better in the rain than you are. The company is now offering Camera Armor, a line of “elastomeric” silicone rubber jackets that it compares to an “iPod skin.” The point is not to make your camera look like a cyborg weapon, but “to protect it from impact, abrasion, dust and fingerprints without sacrificing any necessary camera functions or adding too much additional weight.” Camera Armor is currently only available for the Canon 30D, Nikon D70, Nikon D80 and Canon Rebel XTi.
Sounds like a good concept, as do the Popabrella and PRObrella, two new OmegaSatter umbrella and mount kits. The former is a photo/video protection system, and the latter is intended for DSLRs. The company claims the Popabrella “can be adjusted to just about any position because of its patented 360˚ ball-socket and slide system”. The PRObrella is a slightly more souped-up affair—because of its silver reflective coating, it can be used as a bounce flash umbrella to provide more diffuse light if need be.
Camera Armor is available in Black or Smoke at specialty photography stores nationwide starting at $49.95. Popabrella and PRObrella can be found at photo retailers nationwide, priced between $24.99 and $34.99.
