LiteOn has announced its first DVD recorder with HDMI connector and 1080i upscaler with the recent introduction of the DD-A500GX model. HDMI technology transfers uncompressed digital audio and video signals over a single cable, ensuring an all-digital rendering of video without the losses associated with analog interfaces and their unnecessary digital-to-analog conversions. This creates the highest possible image quality coupled with a built-in upscaler for increased video from the normal 480i to an astounding 1080i (interlaced) resolution. The new DD-A500GX HDMI DVD recorder will be available in September and have a suggested retail price of $169.00.
To further reduce the amount of physical storage space needed to archive DVDs, the DD-A500GX recorder accepts the new Double Layer DVD storage DVD discs (DVD+R DL), providing up to 8.5GB of storage, or up to 4 hours of standard quality video content, on a single disc. This effectively reduces storage space needed for archived videos and helps organize DVDs in a limited space.
"LiteOn’s new HDMI DVD Recorder provides consumers with very high quality digital video and audio carried over a single cable connected directly from the DVD recorder to an HDMI-compatible TV," said Christine Hsing, Marketing Manager at LiteOn. "The result is an extremely sharp video image when combined the 1080i upscaler. With several additional features such as Double Layer disc capacity, dual-format disc compatibility, MPEG-4 video and MP3/WMA audio playback functionality, and VCR+ Plus programming, the DD-A500GX recorder will meet the needs of today’s most demanding audio/videophiles," Ms. Hsing added.
Beyond the recording and viewing of traditional DVDs, the DD-A500GX DVD recorder will also allow users to watch near DVD-quality videos downloaded from the Internet by incorporating MPEG-4 codec technology. Consumers can simply burn their MPEG-4 video files from the Internet onto a DVD or CD recordable disc and watch it on their high-quality big screen TVs. It also offers DivX playback capabilities.
