HP Recalls Photosmart R707

Firmware upgrade released because of overheating, fire risk

June 6, 2006

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Hewlett-Packard Company is recalling the firmware used in the HP R707 camera. HP customers who have the R707 Camera are asked to obtain and install a free firmware upgrade from HP. The affected cameras were distributed worldwide.

When non-rechargable batteries are installed, and the camera is connected to either the docking station, or the AC adapter, a risk of overheating or fire is possible.

A firmware upgrade, which HP states will correct the issue, is available on the HP website for owners of the affected cameras.

Consumers may contact HP for telephone support at 1-866-304-7117,  6AM - 6PM MST, Monday through Friday.

PopPhoto.com has contacted HP representatives to learn more about the recall and firmware upgrade, and will update this article if any further information becomes available.
