In addition to the introduction of their new D2xS DSLR, Nikon also announced the release of new software packages: Camera Control Pro and Image Authentication Software.
Nikon's new Camera Control Pro remote control software is the successor to the Nikon Capture 4 Camera Control released in 2003. The new software enables simplified remote control of many Nikon digital SLR functions from a personal computer, and includes advanced features such as “Viewer” that provide substantial improvements in operation. Camera Control Pro is compatible with Nikon’s latest software, including Capture NX (to be released in Summer 2006), for smoother image processing from shooting to transfer and storage.
Camera Control Pro is said to enable users to capture unique images no matter what the subject. The software features imagine positioning offering the option at a sporting event to freeze the end of the race right at the finish line, or from a unique angle above the playing field. Wildlife and nature photographers will love setting up the camera near a bird’s nest, or in a bluff so they can take that once-in-a-lifetime shot. Industrial photographers can safely place the camera at special locations to record critical elements of the manufacturing process. And law enforcement and government agencies can now use their cameras for continuous surveillance purposes using the software’s built-in intervalometer function.
In newer Nikon digital SLRs, including the D2Xs, customized Tone Compensation Curve data can be saved to tailor the camera’s behavior to the photographer’s vision and improve efficiency when using multiple cameras at the same time.
Nikon's Image Authentication Software is designed exclusively for use with the Nikon D2Xs digital SLR. This software enables the authentication of an image captured by the camera and can determine whether or not it has been altered since capture. Image data can be used as a critical link in the “chain of evidence” for verifying image authenticity by law enforcement and government agencies, the media, insurance companies and for a variety of other business applications. Nikon Image Authentication Software allows easy, secure authentication of images for a wide range of requirements.
Image data as well as information attached to the image are verified to determine whether an image captured by the camera has been changed in any way. Verification results are displayed as a list on the screen of a personal computer, and images selected are displayed as thumbnails within the same screen.
The software enables verification of JPEG, TIFF and NEF(RAW) data taken using a Nikon digital SLR compatible with the authentication function.
