Photo Marketing Association, Jackson, Mich., has put the first of its quarterly Marketing Research Reports on its PMA website at www.pmai.org/marketing_research_video/. The presentation includes trends in camera sales, printing, store pick-up of prints, cameraphone sales and more. Highlights include:
· Digital camera sales grew 40 percent in 2004 reaching 18.2 million units.
· Industry revenue will increasingly depend on accessories, consumables and services.
· More than 10 percent of cameras bought last year were a replacement for a digital camera. The "old" digital camera is likely to be passed to children - this can only lead to more prints and more services.
· Sixty-one percent, or 3.1 billion, of the digital camera prints were made at home in 2004 compared to 2.3 billion, or 76 percent, in 2003. Prints made at kiosks, minilabs, and online, increased to 2.0 billion in 2004 compared to only 0.7 billion the year before. In 2005 home prints will reach 4.0 billion and retail and online prints 3.7 billion.
· The number of prints ordered online is expected to have almost doubled in 2004 to 410 million.
