Charlottesville, Virginia, hosts the first Festival of the Photograph this June -- but the town is no stranger to its idea of "peace, love, and photography."

Begun years ago as a simple gathering to look at and discuss photos, and held until this year at National Geographic photographer Michael "Nick" Nichols' Charlottesville home, the festival will run June 7 to 9 at venues around the city.

The centerpieces are three exhibitions: Thirteen Books by Eugene Richards, Five Decades by William Albert Allard, and Recent Photographs by Sally Mann. The schedule also includes interviews by NPR's Alex Chadwick and masters presentations by David Alan Harvey, Maggie Steber, and Alex and Rebecca Norris Webb. More information at www.festivalofthephotograph.com.

Check back in June for our full report from the festival.
