| Grand Prize Winner |
Bellevue, Wash—Alin Popescu from Bucharest, Romania won the grand prize in Microsoft's first ever Future Pro Photographer contest, an award that includes $20,000 cash and a software package worth $8,000.
More than 7,700 students from over 90 countries entered the contest, which was open to students enrolled in a two- or four-year degree program.
The awards were presented June 28 at Microsoft's Pro Photographer Summit.
Three first-place winners each won $2,000. Carly Short of Ohio Institute of Photography & Technology took first place in the Fine Art category. Ho Young Choi of the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara won first place in People and Portraits. In Nature & Landscape, Harvard University medical student Yeang Ch'ng took top honors.
Judges included Patrick Donehue, VP of Photographer Services at Corbis, Christopher Robinson, editor of Digital Photo Pro magazine, and nature and landscape photographer George Lepp.
