Photographer's Tripod Mistaken For Machine Gun

My brain can think up all kinds of excuses about why I shouldn’t bring a tripod when I go out shooting. Now, apparently I can add “it might get mistaken for a machine gun” to that list. A photographer for the Reading Eagle (a Pennsylvania newspaper) was carrying a tripod when a concerned citizen called 911, reporting that it may be a firearm.

The police eventually arrived to the building and did a floor-by-floor search before figuring out the mix-up that had taken place.

In a time so close to the recent terrorism in France, it’s not surprising to find out that some people are on high-alert. In the end, everything seems to have worked out fine, resulting in the light-hearted image above from the Industrial Revolution Facebook page. But, it’s a nice reminder for us all to be aware of our surroundings. You never know what’s going to happen.
