Grand Prize $1,000 Winner:
Tom Murray
Working with the sky on a separate layer with the window selection only, I then loaded the selection and applied an orange to yellow gradient. I applied a MacMerc Icon Subject layer style to the windows, to get that plastic look. I replaced the background with a purple gradient and then blended the bottom of the window layer and the background. I isolated the car and brought it in to the cityscape. I sharpened up the car with unsharp mask. Then I used the smudge tool, very close in, to smooth some areas. In total, it took about fi ve hours to create.
2nd Place $500 Winner:
Crystal Peplinski
This was crafted with drift racing in mind, which is my son’s favorite sport. I used the Extraction fi lter the most and layered everything separately. I added wind to replicate speed and was able to successfully warp the background on the second try. The distort fi lter and paintbrush, among others, polished it off. It took approximately 10 hours to complete.
3rd Place $250 Winner:
Julie Park
I spent about three hours composing this image. I initially wanted to create a video game look and feel. First I started by creating a dynamic background using fi lters on the image of the buildings and layering the brick wall on top of the building. I used the lighting effect to create the illusion of the headlights. The road was created from the image of the black Charger to create a depth of fi eld. The motorcycle suggests speed with the lion as the driver.
4th Place $100 Winner:
Stefan Michel
I eliminated the background of the car using the wand tool, touching up along the edges of the car and also repairing the shadow with the brush tool. I cropped and resized the lion and placed it behind the layer of the car, then cloned the lion’s hair and lowered the general blending to give it the impression that the lion is in the car instead of behind it. For the banner picture of the football players, I resized the layer and changed the general blending to a light setting. All the work took about 2–3 hours.
