Invisible Ruins of Newtown Creek

This photo is New York City's Newtown Creek, a Superfund site deemed one of the most ruined waterways in the US. Heavily industrialized, with no natural waterflows, this estuary is a stagnant pool of wastewater. Yet around it (and the area where I was photographing from) is a nature park-- right next to a state of the art wastewater treatment plant.
