Going on 270 years

Chapman's Mill on Broad Run near Haymarket, VA. Built in 1742 and burned in 1998, there is an effort underway to restore it. For now it is open to the public (free of charge) to explore and photograph. This shot is of the cogs and stonework that survived the fire, which reveal the many interesting colors found in rock around the Shenandoah Mountain foothills. The mill used to take power from a waterwheel driven by a sluice fed by Broad Run just outside the structure.
