The Fall Rut

On the freezing cold morning of the first frost in Arkansas of the 2012-13 winter. I was lucky enough to catch these bull elk performing their annual mating ritual known as the rut. During this period of time Bulls compete for the cows attention and defend their harem by challenging opponents to dramatic antler wrestling matches as shown here.
