Portuguese Synagogue, Amsterdam
By Ronald Oppenheim
The Portuguese, Synagogue of Amsterdam was constructed in the late 17th century by Jews who had fled from Portugal and Spain as a result of the Inquisition. Still in use, the sanctuary was never electrified and illumination is provided during the daytime by large windows that surround the upper level of the building and at night only by candlelight. This image is an HDR composite of three images. As I had no tripod with me, I used a railing for support. HDR conversion in Adobe PS5.
