This week I'm most intrigued by Robert & Shana ParkeHarrison's show at Catherine Edelman Gallery in Chicago. I'm not usually that excited by "photographic tableau" (to borrow from the press release), but these are both fantastic and mundane, simple and staged—and ultimately just very beautiful.
I have to admit, I'm also intrigued by the "conceptual photographs" going up at Ricco Maresca in New York. I wish there were more examples on their website (and there may be after the opening), but their poster image--of hundreds of people arranging themselves in the shape of the statue of liberty--seems to portend a whimsical if eccentric collection of folk art images (which is the gallery's focus).
