A lot has changed over the last 50 years in photography, and if you need evidence of that, check out this rather fascinating short film about photographer David Burnett. At the time, he was working for Contact Press Images doing documentary photography and also wearing some very era-appropriate robes when hanging around the house.

In the film, Burnett takes an assignment to document some cowboys moving a herd of cattle in the American southwest. It’s full of absolutely fascinating little bits of information. We get to hear him talk about putting some of the costs for the trip on a credit card in order to defer the cost. We get to see the process of selecting images and then looking at them once they have been published. We also get to see some of the images, which rounds the whole thing out nicely.

Thanks to Reddit for bringing this back to the surface. I hadn’t seen it in a long time before it resurfaced.
