Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-H9

A Reader from Lakeside, MT reviews the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-H9:

What's Hot: Compact size, 15x Optical zoom

What's Not: No RAW

Review: I've been using this camera for about a month. Very pleased with resulting pictures. Apparently very wide exposure latitude as dark and light areas in same scene turn out well exposed.

(An exclusive for our newsletter subscribers)

An old adage suggests that we use a shutter speed that is "one over the focal length" to avoid blur caused by camera shake. If shooting with a 200mm, for instance, use 1/200th of a second. The digital SLR with its lens factor changes this old saw. That 200mm produces magnification equivalent to a 300mm, so be sure to increase the shutter speed accordingly. New proverb: "one over the effective focal length."
