Mentor Series - Worldwide Photo Treks!

St. Vincent & The Grenadines | 2005

There is nothing like the edge-of-your-seat excitement of the Caribbean in hurricane season, but this group managed to side-step Wilma.  That doesn’t mean we did not run into a few other characters.   There was Smiley and his brother, Van Dyke, and their other brother SmileyVanDyke - - and of course, the ever-popular TOMBOL (…not Tom Bol the mentor, but TOMBOL, Super-Model).  The market was full of characters (like our new friend Atu).  On the set of “Pirates of the Caribbean” we met all of Johnny Depp’s new best friends!  But without doubt our favorite Vincentians are Jo, Nathan, and Coretta - - always there with the fun facts and rum punch!

Travel with our mentors and try out all of the latest equipment from Nikon! Including world class digital SLRs, Nikkor lenses and the Coolpix line of Digital Cameras.

The sun was shining most days, which gave us great photo opps.  We used our polarizers on the beaches of Bequia (shooting TOMBOL, Super-model, against the turquoise water).  The waterfalls were beautiful and peaceful (although one trekker caught an angle that the rest of us missed – landing on one hand to protect his camera, and spending the rest of the trip as the one-armed bandit - - what a trooper!!!)   The black-sand beaches and soaring palms taught us a few things about fish-eyes and sun-stars.

The powerboat to Mustique was a blast (if you sat in the back J).  This is a small island where celebrities go to hide from people like us.  Although we did not get the “money shot” of Angelina and Brad, we did get to shoot wildlife at the turtle farm – not just turtles, but comical goats and roosters.  We practiced our panning on some of the fastest goats I have ever seen!

Floating around the Owia Salt Ponds was a highlight of the trip – very relaxing, and who knew such a remote location would have an open bar?  The St Vincent Olympic Gymnastic team was training there, which seemed a bit out of place, but we practiced our cartwheels anyway.
So if you like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the “Raw”………OK, so I exaggerated that part.
