Over the past year I have been hearing how Myanmar was a “photographer’s dream”. So, when the Mentor Series offered a workshop, I jumped at the chance. What resulted was one of the most photography-rich and culture-rich journeys I have ever taken.

We visited the stunning Shewdagon Pagoda where we photographed in various light as the sun went down, always with the tutors nearby to help. From there, the days were filled with every imaginable experience. Our itinerary was “flexible” so we often took advantage if something unexpected became available. There was the local “circle train” in Yangon, filled with locals and opportunities for great street photography. There was the village market where our bus stopped and we headed off, cameras in hand. The people, ever friendly and smiling, were happy to have these “crazy photographers” wander through their markets. It was a very special experience.

Every location was a jewel! Temples in Bagan, the Monasteries, and, finally, magical Inle Lake combined to create a workshop that has to be the best I’ve been on. We shot in every sort of light, every sort of condition, and the results for all were amazing. Leaving Myanmar I felt enriched in ways hard to explain. Most importantly, my photography knowledge was greatly improved. I’m definitely on the lookout my next Mentor Series Workshop for another adventure!
