Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM AF
Price (MSRP): $500.00
TYPE: Zoom Lens - Ultra-Wide

If you're not ready to part with the $720 to $940 that it takes to get a comparable Canon or Nikon zoom, this $500 Sigma digital-only is a contender. What you give up in linear distortion at that ultrawide 10mm setting, you more than get back in superior overall sharpness, well-controlled distortion at the mid and tele settings, superior construction, relatively light weight, and the competitive price. With a very tight close-focusing distance of 9.4 inches (at all focal lengths) and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:6.7 (at 20mm), the Sigma 10–20mm f/4–5.6 EX DC HSM AF fared surprisingly well by ultrawide standards, and should be a source of inspiration for photographers looking for the dramatic perspectives of wide-angle close-ups. As its EX designation indicates, Sigma builds this lens for the pro market, and so it feels unusually rugged. For our money, the Sigma's greatest asset might be its super-silent HSM motor. Visit a dealer and compare the AF noise of this and a similar Tamron lens. You'll see what we mean.
