Having earned a degree in architecture from The University of Texas at Austin, Anthony Lindsey brings an attuned graphic eye to his editorial and advertising images. "I have a fascination with objects in the landscape," Lindsey says, "and also a desire to express the idea of a moment unfolding or of time passing, a sense of something happening." Lindsey has shot for clients ranging from Architectural Record to Oakland’s AC Transit company; he spent several months in West Africa documenting the region with a team from the Brooks Institute of Photography, from which he earned a degree. "I love getting out into the world and shooting different kinds of things," he says, "but I’m trying to distill that into something more focused."

Lindsey says that assisting has helped him learn the photo business firsthand. "The best thing Jim Erickson taught me was to never stop shooting -- even after he knows he has the shot, he is still searching for a way to get one more," Lindsey says. "And Art Streiber taught me the power of planning. Art shoots a lot of celebrity portraits and doesn’t always get much time with his subjects. But he maps the shots out in his head, which allows you to really nail it once you get to the location." Lindsey has to make time for his own work. "You can be ready for the transition from assistant to photographer in many ways," he says, "but you still have to find what you’re missing: clients.
