One-year and six-month grants of $35,000 each are awarded to working photojournalists/journalists with at least five years experience to pursue independent projects of significant interest and to write articles based on their investigations for the APF Reporter, a quarterly magazine published by the foundation. All entries must be postmarked by Oct. 1.
Open Society Institute and Soros Foundation Grants
Grants of $5,000 to $40,000 for projects on issues of social justice that have another institution to financially and practically support its distribution (such as a nongovernmental organization, publisher, website, or gallery), and will collaborate with the photographer to use the work to promote social change.
All proposals and supplemental application materials must be received no later than Friday, Oct. 6, 5:00 p.m.
John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation
More than 100 grants of up to $40,000 in various fields, including photography, awarded in the U.S., Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Alexia Foundation for World Peace
One $15,000 grant each year to enable a photographer to have the financial ability to produce a substantial picture story that furthers the foundation's goals of promoting world peace and cultural understanding. Entries are due by 5 p.m. EDT, Jan. 16, 2007.
Dorothea Lange-Paul Taylor Documentary Prize

Four $25,000 grants each year to artists residing in Minnesota who use photography as a primary means of creative, personal expression.

W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund
A $30,000 grant, with an additional $5,000 at the discretion of the jury, presented annually to a photographer whose past work and proposed project follows the tradition of W. Eugene Smith's compassionate dedication. Deadline: July 15, 2006.

Five yearly grants of $20,000 each to individual photojournalists to enable them to showcase projects of personal and journalistic significance. No fall deadline available yet.
