Your Best Shot: The Winners
July 2012: 1st Place

NAOMI RICHMOND, 19, STUDENT, MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA
People are my favorite thing to shoot—I love capturing the essence of a person, or a character. The “dust” shown here is a yellow powdered paint. I wanted it to be an extension of the model, rather than a distraction. This shoot was for a series where I focused on altered states and consciousnesses. The idea for this photo, “The Madman,” was to capture something abstract: madness and/in youth, his conscious and unconscious self.
TECH INFO: Nikon D7000 with 50mm f/1.8G AF-S Nikkor lens; 1/3200 sec at f/1.8, ISO 100. Contrast adjusted in Lightroom 3.
