hey i an in indian, reside in India, but want to participate in the contest.... please is it possible. I Have my family (brother and sister in law residing in Washington and are us citizens)
Why can't residence of NJ enter?
This is such a wonderful magazine - accredited and published worldwide. I look forward to the day contests like this are expanded to include the global community, where talent no doubt abounds ...
I reside in Jakarta, Indonesia. Does it mean I can not participate too ?
I suppose it's a fair enough question why NJ residents cannot enter.
I would love to enter, but I'm only 15. Could Pop Photo have a readers contest for teenagers?
I would love to enter as well, but like Anonymous, I'm only 14. Could PopPhoto please have a teen readers contest?
Folks,
I would love to enter it.
Photography is my dream.
Michael
Where is the search button to upload a photo? It is not showing up on my screen from Firefox.
Yes, why can't an NJ resident enter? Can someone respond??
Here's an idea. Why don't those of us from countries other than the US stop buying Popular Photography? Why just complain about their prejudicial behaviour when a boycott will actively do something about it? After all, if we're good enough to buy the magazines, aren't we good enough to enter their contests?
The reason you can't enter probably has nothing to do with the desires of PopPhoto. It probably has a lot to do with the state or country that you live in and the restrictive laws in your area.
Best of luck to everyone.
Wow there is some good ones entered!! Good job everyone-
Just so you folks ouside of the USA feel better, I'd like to point out that Pop Photo is also "excluding residents of the states of Arizona, New Jersey and Vermont" from accepted entries. I am living in Arizona, a long time reader/subscriber (15+year) of Pop Photo, and I am disappointed too.
What ever the reason is, I think Pop Photo should post an explanation!
From the FAQ of another photography contest:
-Why are Arizona, New Jersey, and Vermont not allowed to participate this year?
-Those states do not allow operation of a skill contest that requires an entry fee.
Thank you for your questions - we understand your frustration, as we also wish we could allow entries from those three states. Unfortunately, contest laws vary from place to place. Arizona, New Jersey, and Vermont have banned contests with entry fees, and therefore it would be illegal for us to accept entries from those three states. Unfortunately, we also can't waive the entry fee only for certain entrants because that would be unfairly discriminatory. Again, we truly understand your frustration, and we wish things were different, but only the lawmaking body of your state can change this situation.
We have sometimes found that people who wish to enter our contests, but live in a state where the contest is illegal, may have another residence in a different state. If you are able to enter from an address in a state that is not excluded from participation, we are not aware of any legal problems with you doing so.
Thanks and good luck
Both this contest and the American Photo one are not open to Canadians...why?
I am a past winner and am very surprised that I can no longer participate.
Sad...
I spent hours here trying to post an entry
Timed out
reconnected
Finally submitted and none of my credit cards
was able to register
It said to complete by phone,
but no number was presented.
I have tried the various contact us
but when they print umpteen publications
who is paying attention to the minutiae?
It was to be my first effort at recognition
So much for contests
I will continue to take pictures
Say cheese !
So, do you show the photo contest registrant that have to sail- mail them? Just keep looking to see if mine are there as submissions. Thank you
The state mentioned that prohibit entry are most likely right on. Any one curious about how much money is made on these bogus contest?
I'll tell you how to have an honest contest. Charge a small amount like $10. Per photo, limit entries to 3 photos. Here's the important part, every entry entitle the entrant to 5 votes, that they may cast any way they like, Except to vote for their own photos. An outside source would do the counting, except for their fees all other monies would be paid out based on a schedule created before the contest started.
No too many fair and honest photo contest I know of, how about you,
Know any?
I forgot to mention a photo contest, the one in which EVERBODY is chosen a WINNER.....then they want you to buy this coffee table book, that going to have your winning photo in it. Nice selling job, under the disguise of it being a " photo contest ".
Yes count me in! I want to share some of my shots to see if others like them.
There is enough competition in the US for this contest. Other countries may have more of an advantage with more beautiful sceneries or wildlife. There are international contests on the web, you need to do a little research.
How about getting the links fixed on all the photos. It was supposed to be fixed over 2 months ago, but never happened, Part of the fun of entering is to have all see the entries. Thanks.
For next year's and future entries, here is my suggestion. All HDR and 3D pics submitted have their own catagories and compete against each other. It is unfair that a person who submits one image has to compete against another who combined 3 or more to get the correct exposure/color and submits it as one picture!!!! If you don't change the catagories, then we should change the competition name from photography to a photoshop competition.
sour grapes
I would like to suggest extending the submission deadline to November 1. There are a lot of beautiful fall scenes that will have to wait until next year's contest.
When with the winners be posted?? Can't wait for the next one to enter in.
