The largest ever digital camera has received approval to move forward, and we're one step closer to a 3.2-gigapixel space camera.
The SLAC (Stanford Linear Accelerator Center) National Accelerator Laboratory has received the go ahead from the Department of Energy to move forward on to the next stage with the creation of a 3.2 billion-pixel digital camera. The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope camera, which you can see mocked up above, will be able to survey the entire visible sky every week, and the resulting data will be released to the public.
