You're looking at this on the internet, which means you've probably already seen today's Google Doodle. It depicts a video of a horse galloping and it's a hat tip to Eadweard J. Muybridge on what would be his 182nd birthday. Back in the 1870s, the British photographers wanted to find out if all four of a horse's feet were off the ground at any point during its gallop. In order to find out, he set up 12 stereoscopic cameras (24 total shots) and had a race horse run by.

Artist Sebastien Schmieg's ongoing Search by Image art series starts with a single image, and then feeds it into Google Image Search's "most similar" function to create the next frame in the video. His newest video  is "Search by Image, Recursively, Transparent PNG, #1", and starting with a 400x225 transparent png, he cycles through 2951 images culled from the search engine in what becomes a hypnotic video (warning, slightly NSFW).

Google is has been quietly working on a social photo-sharing app for a while now, and the project has finally gone live, but you can't get in quite yet. Photovine has a pretty little website, a free iPhone app, and the teaser video above, but without an invite you can't get in.

Google Business Photos were first rumored more than a year ago, but they have now officially lauched the program, and business owners in a handful of cities can now request a Google photographer to come to their store and take photos for Street View.
