Nikon has released two firmware updates, patching and adding features to the Nikon D600, D800 and D800E. While most of the improvements are fairly low key, there are a few notable improvements that should please some users.

Canon has been on a bit of a roll with firmware releases over the last few months. Since August, they've released update for the 1D X, the 40mm f/2.8 lens, and the 7D.

Not long ago, Canon issued an official service advisory about the 40mm F/2.8 STM pancake lens and a focus issue that arose if you applied too much pressure to it. They promised a firmware fix and now it's official. You can download it here, but you can only apply it on your own if you have a Canon 5D Mark III or newer.

Magic Lantern is an alternative firmware for Canon DSLRs that is designed for videography work — but has plenty to appeal to still shooters, too.
