Japanese company Superheadz released a new product late in October — a 35mm camera that you construct yourself from a plastic kit. Dubbed "The Last Camera", it'll do everything you ever wanted from a Lomo camera, but you build it yourself.

Thermal imaging cameras are capable of sensing heat like a traditional camera senses light. They're very cool, but extremely expensive, so modder Andy Rawson developed a way of attaching thermal sensing software to his iPhone. For about $150 in hardware, he outfitted his iPhone with a sensor capable of showing a 64 square grid of temperatures, feeding information through the dock port.

Most of the cameras we write about here at Popular Photography are made of familiar materials like plastic and magnesium alloy. But, the simple fact is you can make a camera out of almost anything. In fact, many of us as children took on the task of making a camera from an oatmeal container or even a match box. But why not something less conventional? A trash bin? Sure! A dead turtle? That's a little creepy, but why not? Photographers are creative people and their imaginations don't end, or even begin with the photograph. Here's a collection of cameras made from odd objects.

As part of her BA in Design at Goldsmiths, Henrietta Jadin undertook a project dubbed Breaking Point, looking at the intersection of marriage and destruction. Part of that involved the repeated smashing of crockery and glasses, so she created the Smashing Booth. This incredible wooden device flings an object at the back wall of a chamber, and photographs the destruction perfectly, each time. The shot is captured using an open shutter, a sound sensor, and a strobe.
