The proliferation of laser cutters has meant that crafty makers have been able to rapidly disseminate and assemble all sorts of bizarre and interesting pieces of gear. Take, for instance, the Laser Cut Kite Photo Rig, currently available to download on Thingiverse. It's a laser cut design for a tilt and pan rig, that could be used to control a camera attached to a kite.

The camera obscura is one of the oldest concepts in optics. It's been in use since at least the 4th century BC, and the simple method of a small hole in a darkened room or box may even have been one of the key techniques to the artistic breakthroughs of the Renaissance.

In one form or another, the photo booth has long been a mainstay of parties. The folks at HYPERHYPER have just created an updated take on it with PHHHOTO, which combines an iPad with custom built software and a ring-light in order to create hyper-kinetic animated GIFs of partygoes.

Wedding photographer Sam Hurd has revealed a technique that he uses to create some pretty incredible images. He's dubbed the method "prisming", and involves holding a long, thin, triangular prism up to a prime lens in order to control diffraction, and cause some pretty spectacular effects.
