Japan seems to be doing something above and beyond the rest of us when it comes to 3D scans of people. Last year was the 3D scanning photo booth, and now we're hearing word of FabCafe, which is transforming people into chocolate and gummies in the name of love.

Remember that insanely interesting Japanese 3D photobooth from earlier this month? Here's a bit of a look at what goes in to making those 3D miniatures, and it requires a bit more hands-on time than we originally thought. In addition to the 15 or so minutes it takes to scan each person, there's also touch ups that are required on the 3D model directly, and also once it's printed.

The concept of a photo booth is about to get a radical overhaul, thanks to a Japanese design group called PARTY. They've announced a pop-up store called Omote 3D, that'll be running in the famed Harajuku district of Tokyo from November to January — where they'll make a 3D model of you, while you wait.
