Kodak has introduced a new compact EVF camera with a large zoom range. The EasyShare Z812 IS provides 8.2-megapixel resolution; an f/2.8-4.8, 36mm-432mm Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon 12x zoom lens with optical image stabilization; and a 230,000-pixel, 2.5-inch LCD supplemented by an electronic viewfinder (EVF). Like all EasyShare cameras, it's compatible with Kodak's docks and portable printers. This model can also take lens converters and filters with an adapter.
Offering manual, priority, and automatic exposure modes, the Z812 IS can shoot at shutter speeds ranging from 1/1000 to 1/2 second. Its Smart Scene mode evaluates subjects and automatically picks the scene mode it deems most appropriate, and its light sensitivity can go up to ISO 1600, or ISO 3200 with a reduced resolution. Other notable features include spot and center-weighted metering, a live histogram, automatic exposure bracketing, voice annotation, and a 2fps continuous-shooting mode that can be set to save the first or last six frames in a burst.
The Z812 IS's video mode can record smooth 30fps footage at a 1024x720 resolution that makes it suitable for display on a high-definition TV. The camera saves video in the space-efficient MPEG-4 format and captures stereo sound.
The Z812 IS is available now for $299.95.
