Olympus has introduced new underwater housings and accessories for several of its digital cameras, as well as an underwater flash unit. All of the new gear is rated for use down to depths of 40 meters (approximately 133 feet).
The new camera housings include the $1100 PT-E03 for Olympus's Evolt E-410 digital SLR, the $380 PT-037 for the compact SP-550 UZ, the $300 PT-035 for the Stylus 770 SW, the $260 PT-036 for the Stylus 760, and the $170 PT-038 for the FE-230.
Olympus has also released a new PPO-E05 lens port for the 14mm-42mm Zuiko Digital SLR lens. It is compatible with the new E-410 SLR housing, as are several existing lens ports and flash housings.
The new UFL-1 underwater flash unit uses a wireless slave mode to sync with a camera's built-in flash. It offers both TTL flash metering with compatible Olympus cameras and manual exposure settings, and has a 2-second recycle time.
Other new underwater accessories include a $20 float strap for Stylus SW cameras and $17 silicone skins for the waterproof Stylus 770 SW. The bright red strap keeps the camera floating on the water's surface and lets swimmers strap the camera to their arm. The camera skins come in orange, blue, and clear versions, and protect the camera from scratches while making it easier to handle in the water.
The new Olympus underwater housings and accessories will be available in June 2007. Further information is available on Olympus's Web site.
